{Life Learning Beyond Everything}

Hello Everyone,

Nice to meet you again~

Today I learned something new and quite cool to be use on teaching and learning. Have you heard about AR or VR? AR is Augmented Reality and VR is Virtual Reality. But in this segment, I will focus on AR :) Have you watch Iron man , then it will be more easier to relate with what we are going to be discussed~

Augmented Reality :  (direct or indirect, view of a physical, real-world environment whose elements are augmented (or supplemented) by computer-generated sensory input such as sound, video, graphics ).

In Iron man, there are a lot of moments where the main character deals with the buildings and his gadgets by virtual asses to the technology right. Where he sits down in the chairs and move his hands to move the screens to all of the places...hmm...can remember???

It will be very useful tools in teaching the students but I personally think that it will become more popular in the future as the development of this technology is still new and still in process. Imagine having a class where you can learn virtually in 3D about the content of the subject where all the details can be seen. Take for example where the Biology teacher can teach the students how to dissect a frog without actually need to use the real frog because of the help of visual image. This will help the students to see the organs more clearly and also contribute to their experiences as well. For geography for instance, the layers of the earth can be learn by separating the earth segment in the virtual model where the students can relate their learning.

Talking about this remind myself of my school time memories where at that time using slides and computer are considered the most advanced technology that we have in our school. Other than that, the teachers usually used text books to refers to the information and sometimes we will be shown structures of earth through some plastic earth model in geography class and even that makes our learning fun and interesting than usual. Imagine having 3D leaning environment surely it is more amazing as you can relate it realistically to the real life.Besides that, using it motivates all the learners as they are more curious on how to handle this tools and the process of learning itself are very different compared to traditional learning where all mostly what you do are sitting down and write your notes in the class. Using this Augmented Visual mechanism allows more hands on activity occurs and interactive learning with critical and creative development in young students especially because they can see the subject learn in many perspective as they can rotate the 3D image.

Despite all this research shown that having too much reliability towards this tools which I agreed will encountered the teachers job since mostly all the works been done by the mechanism in terms of explaining the content. More than that, this tools availability are limited and it took a long time to produce in this time and the use of it requires huge some of resources in supporting the usage of this technology unless if it were given free to all of the schools then only some of the schools and students can benefits from this. In addition to that, the teachers need to be fully aware and equipped with the knowledge and skills in using Augmented Visual tools so that they can used it and maximise it fully for the learning and towards the students.

Too much of the usage will lead eventually to some learners benefits greater than other learners as previously we discussed about VAK and I hope you still can remember what it is..okay VAK refers to (Visual, Auditory and Kinesthetic) learners. In Augmented Visual (AV), students that learned through visual and kinesthetic gained more on the content and knowledge as it is their best way of learning and this giving perception that auditory learners does not benefits much from this learning styles and there are a lots of arguments on this topics so it means that as a teachers we should not excessively use this teaching methods but need to have a combination of traditional and modern teaching to balance the teaching methods so that our students can benefits from both teaching and learning styles. For me, I will definitely apply this in the future if the school manage to supply the facilities and besides it's cool to use it ..aha.. BUT , of course with proper knowledge and skills to use it okay :)

That's all my guest from me :) See you soon and thank you ;)

The Beginning of my career~

Learning Journal of Sekolah Tamil Ladang Semenyih :)

Oh~~~ My Brilliant Honorable Guests Welcome Again to HERE!!! Aha~

Since I am coming back from my holiday, I have been through new journey of life which one of it is  going to school and do some ACTUAL TEACHING!!! Which for your information I have been craving for and my target is especially primary little cutie students~

Ehemmm....

So,....well let me tell you MY STORY OF REFLECTION (MIRROR~MIRROR)~

"The Experience is such as The Furniture's completing the Desirable Living Room For Me~" Aha~ -By Me-
Four consecutive memorable days which 3 of them are spending with the students in school while the last one in our university~

Une Memoir~
[Beau Contact]

First steps to school wondering whether the teaching plan and lessons would suits the students taste. My Feelings for that day as such a mixture of spices to make a fantastico~ sauce. The feelings of spiciness and bitter sweet flavors center my life at that moment. Well, let's come back to reality now ;).

Teaching as a teacher to primary students in this case, Grade 6 allows me to experience a lot of opportunities that will prepared my expectation in the future. Throughout the journey, I get to know the students, their school and classroom environment, culture and how the students learn more deeply.

There are a lot of factors to be taken care on especially one of them is how I need to address the issues of learners differences in terms of ethnicity and culture differences (social class) when planning the lesson plan and conducting my teaching strategies. Since this is Tamil school where majority of the school community is Indian, their culture of communication school and classroom environment are different in account to the students social class as well. Majority of the students and teachers used to communicate in Tamil language whether outside or inside classroom therefore, the use of English language is only restricted during English language class and this lead to students have quite low English level in terms of writing, reading and communication.

Hmm...so being a teacher, you need to be aware of these factors because it is important so that we can relate better with our students. While planning the lesson plans, I need to be cautious not to touch matter that can be considered sensitive in Indian culture. Which means, I need to know and update my knowledge about Indian society culture in Malaysia so I can transfer the knowledge to my sweet students in a way they can understand in culture context. Moreover, the activities created must be correlation to Grade 6 curriculum in Malaysia and also something that students can relate to daily life when especially you give examples that related to the content. For instance, majority of the students are from middle and working class in social class stratification so it is common sense not to give example of "What can we recycle Prada bag into?" while learning as they don't really have the experience on the item okay. It will be much better to use common example such as "What can we recycle tissue box into?" because then all the students can participate in discussion session.

Despite all this factors, students learned best by more hands on activities because in this age they are more an active learner and also what we can relate is that students have different learning styles which in previous blog we talk about VAK (Visual, Auditory and Kinesthetic) and therefore creating activities for learning need to include active body movement to make the students to remember what they learned because from my observation this way improve students memory and their meta-cognition too (meta-cognition: thinking about thinking). Teaching and creating activities required higher thinking of critical and creative skills too where we need to ensure students do make progress in their learning through appropriate assessment. Appropriate assessment is according to students English level where perhaps students with lower ability in reading for instance will be given simple text t read yet not too SIMPLE because they need to progress from their level, we don't want them to stuck at their level, do we...  So......hmm...I used a lot of so...okay...So...my dear LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, to become a good teacher, one must have the experience, knowledge and skills to handle the students and they need meet the students need too. Which means, RESPECT YOUR TEACHER when they are trying to help you improve your learning, COOPERATION with YOURSELF-CONTROL is a MUST !!! :) Okay ~ It will be better when you have the experience of becoming the teacher yourself because that way you will really know that being a teacher need a very big courage, patients and understanding to teach people.

That is all for today, what I can conclude here is that first of all knowing your students, social culture especially and ethnicity will eventually helps you to plan your lesson plans accordingly. More than ever, the activities that correlated to students ethnicity and social culture will broaden ways of teachers strategies to teach. My dear Ladies and Gentlemen, thank you for making your time to read my blog and please do visit again. I hope we can learned something from the STORY OF beginning of MY LIFE~

VAK anddd.....WHAT IS IT????

He..he...hmmm.... Hello!!! Nice to be able to meet all of you again in this online medium ;)
It's been almost 3 weeks I have returned to my school again and I get to see my friends and also NOT TO FORGET learn something new and that I feel will benefits me in the future.

So... guest what??? I would like to share what I have learn to all of MY HONORABLE LADIES AND GENTLEMEN so that this precious knowledge will benefits you as well~ he..he.. :)

I have new subjects this semester and one of them is "Learning Styles and Strategies".

Basically, it provide us with knowledge, theories and skills about how to identify  our individual learning styles and to maximize our studies strategies. So lets get READY for the action of reading NOW!!!

I learned a lot about VAK which represents [ Visual,Auditory and Kinaesthetic ]

Sooo…basically when I heard this kind of terms what across  into my mind is that oh…this must have been the types of learning styles as well because our subject theme is after all “Learning Styles and Strategies”.

Well, before I was introduced to the meaning of VAK, the whole class were to take set of question that predetermined which categories you ARE in VAK? In the end, I found out that I am more prone into Kinaesthetic and Visual learners. It is quite the truth as I am more comfortable to see and write down notes as I am listening to my lecturers. But that doesn't necessarily means that I am not an auditory person it just that I am much more stronger to remember and learn through visual and kinaesthetic aid.

Due to this, we need to read articles regarding research on VAK to deepens our understanding of the subject. I need to say that it does help me to understands more about VAK because the research explains it in more detailed perspective. In the research it is said one of the factors affecting the learning styles is that "the differences between the styles represented has strong connection with differences of gender" as it is believed that males and females students learn differently from one another at the beginning of the research.   The objective of this research is to analyze evidential base and assess precariously of the affirmation made on learning styles. The results and the conclusion made are unexpectedly in regards that both gender learned better by using kinaesthetic methods. Well, as they consider it to refined their capability in learning more fast and mostly because the learning are more fun and satisfying.

In this point view, I agree and at the same time I disagree. Well, firstly  I agree  considering as a girl and from my observation, girls are more likely to have learning styles better by listening and watching the teacher teach as girls can withstands more into listening. Meanwhile boys are more into hands-on activity because they can move more and learn better that way. Even when I am stating this, it is undoubtedly that all of us individual has our own preference in learning styles and strategies.

From my experience, I believed everyone is just as unique as they are with their own learning styles because I have seen many females students that are prone to kinaesthetic learning styles and their academic and co-curriculum level are very high too and it is quite surprising that some of my male students are doing just great by using auditory and visual learning styles and not much of kinaesthetic methods. Sooo... this prove that we need other side experiences to help us judge about the studies in certain research because eventually the research can be changed from time to time and the peoples opinion on it too.

At first, there is THE MOMENT where I find quite intriguing about whether the VAK is only for students purposes only..but after receiving an explanation regarding this matter,it is seen as a tool for us students and teachers to use. For students, being able to know what methods of VAK suits them more allows them to improve on on their sectors being whether (auditory, visual or kinaesthetic) learner. However, there is critique about this research as the research unfortunately not properly proven. But still, this information regarding VAK surely give some help to someone who need it. As for the teachers, this grant them the access to know their students learning styles and to create learning environment that is conducive and increase students level of understanding by creatively mixing auditory, visual and kinaesthetic activities in their lesson plan.

Since I knew that I engaged more in learning by kinaesthetic and visual learning styles, I would like to expand it more by maximize my usage with my preference learning styles so that I can get the knowledge at the very best level. And I hope that to practice on my auditory learning styles so that my learning methods can be varied and besides mixing all the learning styles will be able to help me learn at my maximum potential. I think the connection of the reading of VAK and to use in in practical life can be done as nothing is impossible!!!

THANK YOU AND BYE.......~ BYE~

Lovely ~ Tamil School Project~

As soon as I come back from my long holiday, I have an adventurous journey waiting for me which is to teach students from Tamil School. I am quite glad to be given this hands on and real teaching experience as it will greatly help me to shape my though more on how to educate the children who will builds up our future generation. Well...well....well... Let's Get Started Then....

Day 1~ The Day which began everything~

After planning the flow and process of how we should teach the children in groups, we gather materials to be used for the lessons. At first, the planned is getting into their respective places however due to unexpected issues we need to reschedule back our plan and to certain point substituted it with other activities plan for another day. Some of the materials such as glue and scissor need to be borrowed from other people. However, despite that, when the real day come, I did say that all went as it was planned. The students are really well behaved however because this is class with mixed ability not all of the students were able to keep in track with the lesson as their English level is different from one another. Some are really fast in spelling during questions and answer session but they are some minorities that cannot spell the words properly. The assistance of teachers are needed more in noticing and helping those students who are really need it so that their confidence level increases. By the end of the lesson, we managed to get all the students to cooperate well in their respective groups and able to create final products from using recycle materials as after all the lesson is all connected to "RECYCLING". Thank you~  :)

See You My Honorable Guest again okay~

Gracie~

Bye~  Bye~....   :)  :)  :)

Professionalism Beauty~ah~

As a future generation, we should learn about professionalism in every aspect of our life especially when it covers beautification people! Aha....  ;)) "Well, beauty in this case also include table manner".. :)

What is professionalism???

Professional status, methods, character, or standards. Retrieved from http://www.thefreedictionary.com/professionalism

So, here we are going to discuss and see the general idea about manner and table etiquette and beautification (how to dress for both gender and others).

Gentle Reminder: It is actually up to you about how to dress because this is only a general idea but it will be good when you practice it especially in a very special occasion.

Manner

So, many of us have been invited to come to a formal dinner right? If not, this might be your first time reading this,so...Welcome To My World :)

It is actually interesting  to know all this because it opens our eyes about what other people perception about table manner. Some might be sensitive about it while some not. It is always a better and good idea to know about this in case that we need it later.

Knowing + Application (practice it) = Beneficial factor such as individual satisfaction.

Now, Let's take a look what is all about okay :)

                                                         A Formal Dinner Setting

This is an example ONLY!!

We have a lot of different setting depends on the country, culture and the people who set it up.
Above is a type of utensil tools used when we have dinner in reputation or formal occasion.

How to USE them?

Now, always remember the concept of (OUTSIDE IN) because we start with the salad fork and soup spoon and then slowly as the dish started to change you used the fish fork and fish knife. See, it's from out to inside. (Above illustration of "A Formal Dinner Setting).

That's all for table manner ;)

Let's move to cloth especially for working, casual and other.... (I got this advice from a very professional person that involve in the beautification area)

Business Formal

  • make sure the color of the watch, shoes and belt similar,
  • the tie must be on the belt level (not too short/long)- this is the trend nowdays,
  • wear a suitable business jacket,
  • polish your shoes,
  • since male have not much accessories, the watch is very important because it main a role reflecting the type of person you are (to a certain extent)..,
  • your hairstyle should be comfortable and suit your face shape (ex: cirsle, heart, rectangle and so on...)

Business Casual

  • Since it's still involve Business, the casualty must be professional such as not too casual such as short pans (try too avoid it).
  • Choose Calm and smooth color such as blue, green and you can do more research on that...
  • Wear accessories such as hat if it's in location such as beach or sea (it also helps to protect your head) :)
  • Most important : It is (the cloth) relaxing and makes you feel comfortable and also portrayed your self smartly in a way...
  • NO Scandals allowed!!! Clear...

Men accessories

This is some of the available accessories for men :) [Simple but honestly it's very attractive ~]

Women part RIGHT NOW!~ The cloth for women is very flexible, just pick the one that is suitable to occasion and the one that makes you comfortable ;)

Formal Business

  • Wear long gown or usually we goes with long slimy pans with long (hand part) jacket that similar or suitable contrast color'
  • tidy your hair by make it clean (shampoo..." of' course")  and in appropriate design such as you can just let it go or make a bun hair... ;)
  • Not too many jewelery at least 3 (if not that will be too much unless if the size is small)
  • Scarf  if you want..
  • Natural make up or something that make you more bright and attractive (well, in a good way)

Casual Business

  • Depends on the type of occasion like what I have mention for male casual attire,
  • Wear comfortable shoes and NO Sandals please!!!
  • You can also wear cute gown..

Hello ! ... Language Acquisition, please dear..... :)

What is that???

Language acquisition is a process and ability of a person to be able to comprehend, understand and use language in a correct manner (interaction and construction of sentences).

First language acquisition (for example: You are born Japanese and your parents using Japanese language in interacting with you since birth, therefore, naturally you learn Japanese language as your First language). Well, that is your First language acquisition ;)

Now, given the next example of language acquisition : Juan (Italian) married to Anna (Australian) and Lily, their daughter was born later. Anna using English to interact with Lily since birth but Juan teaching Italian language to Lily too. So in this case, Lily, first language is English language because she learn it since birth and later learning Italian language from her papa. We also called Lily as Bilingualism ( a person who have the ability to read, write, and speak fluently in two language).

You can find it more here: http://leap.tki.org.nz/What-is-bilingualism

There are more types of language acquisition such as multilingual and monolingual people.

There are many factors involved in children language of acquisition such as:

  •  Parents
For instance, Jammy (English) married Jenny (English) and have a son. Both of them teach their son English and therefore, the son first language of acquisition is English language. This also related to the Lily case but she is bilingual.
  • Environment (country they lived)
For examples, there is a case where Sammy (English) married with Tia (Philippines) and they decided to stay in Korea. After 5 years they have twins, since they stay and work in Korea they are more used to speak in Korea and therefore they teach the twins Korean language because later the twins will also study in Korea. In this case, even though the parents are not Korean, the environment infused their language life and their children to perceived Korean language as their first language acquisition.

Amazingly, children learn all this trough mimicking, practicing, nature and nurture,  input and others.

Let me give you some examples:

Mimicking
Mom: Son, do our homework now!
Son: (Repeat the tone) Son, do your homework now!
Mom: Do your homework!
Son: (Repeat the tone) Do your homework!

Practicing
Writing and essay and interact with more knowledgeable people using the words that they try to remember and just learn.

Nature and nurture
Nature: Natural process where both parents speak English with their children and children get influence by English language.
Nurture: Reinforcement of words such as (have,has,are...) to children. Re correct the children sentences such as "I have a candy" not "I have an candy".

Input
The time spend learning something new such as spending time reading a book to learn new words or languages.

Mainly through diversity marriages, sometimes it is difficult for the children to identify their first language of acquisition. So parents, please take note on this issues okay ;)
